Hi everyone,
This week we were, for the first time, asked by a potential customer for an Accessibility Conformance Report. This prompted us to spend a few days revisiting and fine-tuning our website accessibility
We have always believed our geocoding API and tools should be usable by everyone, which is precisely why we spend so much energy on keeping the service simple. “Everyone” of course includes developers and users with disabilities. That’s why we’re pleased to announce that we now have a publicly available Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) for OpenCage.
An ACR documents how a product conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and is typically produced using the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). It gives organisations, particularly those in the public sector or with formal procurement requirements, clear, structured information about the accessibility of a product before they commit to using it.
You can find our ACR here, like our public geocoding API Change Log and various other documents, we are hosting it on GitHub so it is easy for people to see changes. .
Publishing this report is part of our ongoing commitment to building a service that is transparent and inclusive.
This of course doesn’t imply our work on accessibility is done; quite the contrary, there is always work to do, and best practices evolve over time. We plan to publish updates to the report on an annual basis.
Of course if you spot areas for improvement, or have questions, please do let us know.
Happy geocoding,
Ed
