Hi everyone,

today’s post is to announce changes to our pricing structure that will take place from 1 March 2023.

For the first time in eight years we will be adjusting the price and volume levels of some of our geocoding subscription plans.

As a reminder, you can always see our pricing and terms on our pricing page. The majority of customers will not be affected by these changes.

What are the changes?

We are making two changes:

First, the price and size of some of our geocoding subscription plans will change. Some plans will grow in volume, others will reduce. Some pricing will change.

Here is a summary showing our current and future pricing in US dollars (USD). The changes will be propotionally the same in the other currencies we accept.

Plan Currently From 1 March 2023
price/month volume (requests/day) price/month volume (requests/day)
x-small $50 10,000 $50 10,000
small $100 20,000 $125 30,000
medium $500 100,000 $500 125,000
large $1,000 500,000 $1,000 300,000

Second, we offer our customers the option of paying in various major currencies. Over the years the exchange rate of some currencies have drifted from their value in Euro (as a German company the Euro is the currency we use for our internal accounting and paying taxes), and we are rebasing these.

Specifically, we will be adjusting our AUD, BRL, GBP, and SEK pricing. The table below shows geocoding x-small monthly subscription prices for these currencies. All other plans (small, medium, large) will also be scaled accordingly.

Currency Current price Price from 1 March 2023
AUD AU$66 AU$75
BRL R$100 R$120
GBP £38 £45
SEK kr450 kr500

The pricing of our geosearch service will NOT change.

Why are we making these changes?

It has been eight years since we set our prices. During that time we have learned a great deal about the needs of the market. Meanwhile prices have inflated by about 20-30% (depending on currency), a trend that has accelerated significantly in recent years. Likewise, some currency exchange rates have drifted.

We have worked diligently to keep our costs down, and keep our service as affordable as possible, but recently many of the prices we pay our suppliers have increased. As one example of many, just this week Stripe, our payment processor, announced an increase in their prices.

Supplier after supplier has raised their pricing. It is not a decision we take lightly, but we have reached the point where it is time to also adjust some of our plans.

How do these changes impact existing customers?

Unless otherwise agreed, the new pricing will take effect for existing subscription customers from 1 June 2023. We will be in touch by email with all current geocoding subscription customers who are impacted by these changes.

What actions do current customers need to take?

No explicit action is needed.

Nevertheless,

  • if you are contemplating becoming a customer or upgrading to a different plan you may, depending on the plan, want to do so before March 1st to benefit from the current pricing.

  • if you are currently a monthly subscription customer you may want to move to an annual plan to lock in the old pricing for the next year. Annual plans are 10x monthly plans, the equivalent of getting two months for free.

Closing thoughts

We hope the last eight years have shown that we are a stable, transparent, reliable, no-stress partner to our customers.

We work very hard to keep our service both highly available (see our annual uptime reports) and highly affordable, while also being able to invest in continually improving service quality and giving back to the open data and open source software communities. We will continue to fund these efforts, organize and sponsor Geomob, and donate 1% of revenues to carbon capture projects.

Thank you to all of our customers, past and present, for their support.

Forward,

Ed
