I unfortunately have some bad news to report.
Earlier today we discovered a system was misconfigured in such a way that
in some cases geocoding results were being returned but without the contents
of the components or formatted portion of the result.
This problem affected about 3-4% of queries for an 18 hour period. The misconfiguration was corrected as soon as we understood the issue, and all is now working well.
Next steps

We are now devising more tests to ensure such an error can’t happen again in the future.

We are revisiting our alerting thresholds so that we catch errors like this more quickly should they occur.
