Hi friends,

Last week we announced our new Excel Add-in, that makes it simple for you to use our geocoding API in Microsoft Excel. While most feedback we had was very positive, we did get one mail from a well intended developer telling us that desktop-based software is dead. Indeed, the mail continued, even server.based software is dead, and we should instead be embracing our new “server-less” future, including technologies like AWS Lambda.

Well, if - like that reader - you too have decided to worship at the altar of our new Amazonian overlords, then today I have some great news. Our good friend Arnaud Ferrand who has written not just a wrapper library for using the OpenCage Geocoder inside AWS Lambda, but also an amazing tutorial that explains it in deep detail.

Great work Arnaud! Finally we are freed from the shackles of the server!

Like all of our wrapper libraries, be they written by us or open-sourced by the community of OpenCage users, this new library is linked from our libraries page.

We’re always on the hunt for new ways to make it easier for people to use our API. If you’re interested in writing a wrapper library for the API in a programming language or software package that we don’t yet have, please get in touch. We would love to work with you.

Happy geocoding,

Ed
